I found this to be a cogent and helpful article that does much to offer an explanation of what President Trump and his ilk are about in the Middle East, agree with them or not. 9 3% of VDH’s articles are, in my opinion, by either omission or com mission, vehicles to run cover for the Trump administration. Here’s one of his other 7%.

I was disappointed to see so little mention of the Palestinians or Gaza & the West Bank.

I’ll bookmark this to read, thanks Mr. Dorque.

I’ve not read much of VDH for years now, because of the, ahem, work, he has to do in that 93%

My list of otherwise (previously?) intelligent writers that I’ve stopped reading has grown a lot of these last few years  and is still growing. This vexes me.

Or died or retired. And I may be too generous at 7%. But VDH can be on point occasionally.

And you’re welcome.

I’m mystified by the Trump phenomenon. Do his minions behave the same way with their children at table as they do at work? I don’t always succeed, but I try to be the same person, or at least recognizable as the same person, everywhere. It’s actually sort of off-putting to many.

T hey probably don’t really matter currently, other than to keep the Israeli population on a higher alert mind set.

I personally can’t wrap my brain around the mindset of born again-ish folks that enjoy flocking to Israel. My boss’ boss goes there to “walk in the footsteps of Jesus” and all of that and honestly has a fun and rewarding time. It is interesting to listen to her talk about it - it clearly is a positive experience for her. M ore like a Christian Disneyland than a flash point of global political happenings.

Iran is not much of a threat to Israel. Israel has nuclear weapons and Iran does not. For that matter, Israel has the backing of the most powerful military in world history, and Iran does not.

I’m very skeptical that Iran is making any real effort towards acquiring nuclear weapons, but the US seems to be doing everything in its power to make it happen. We pulled out of the nuclear deal despite certified compliance on Iran’s part, clear evidence that the US is not to be trusted; as if the Iraq invasion and the intervention in Libya were not already effective lessons to the world’s non-US-backed dictators that they abandon nuclear deterrence at their peril. And that is the only thing Iran might want nukes for - deterring the US and Israel. The Ayatollah and the rest of the Iranian leadership are not good guys, but they’re not  stupid or suicidal either.

Israel should be more worried about the degrading effect their brutal treatment of the Palestinians is having on their support in the US, support they badly need. But Netanyahu and the rest of the Likud criminal gang are too demented by bloodlust to see things clearly.

I read recently that President Trump and his [Evangelical] followers don’t actually care about Jews at all. That they know best  what’s good for Israel. But I have to agree that simply walking away from the Iran nuclear deal made a great show, but was probably not good for the long game. Then again, what would I know that isn't fake news?

WW3 would be interesting given the integration of peoples we now have, technology, and so on. Not so easy to pick sides.

Evangelicals just think Israel needs to exist as a precondition for the rapture. But Trump is King of Israel now, apparently, so I’m sure he knows what’s best.

I am curious to see how Netanyahu does in his election in a week. Will his affair with President Trump help him or hurt him?
